The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the deaths of two individuals who were found deceased at a residence near Weslaco, in what authorities believe to be suspected fentanyl overdoses.

According to a news release, deputies responded to a call at a home located in the 4600 block of East Joel Cardoza Street on Sunday at approximately 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the bodies of two adults later identified as 35-year-old Stephen Cardoza and 35-year-old Analilia Juarez.
Officials stated that drug paraphernalia was located inside the residence, prompting further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Autopsies were ordered for both individuals, and preliminary findings revealed the presence of fentanyl and other illicit substances in their systems.
“The deaths are believed to be the result of an overdose and the investigation remains ongoing,” the sheriff’s office said in the release. Authorities have not indicated whether any arrests have been made or if additional individuals may be involved, as the case is still under review.
In a statement addressing the incident, Hidalgo County Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra emphasized the serious dangers associated with illegal drug use. He warned residents that many illicit substances are often unknowingly mixed with fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid that can be deadly even in very small amounts.
Sheriff Guerra urged the community to remain cautious and aware of the risks posed by illegal drugs, noting that fentanyl-related overdoses continue to be a significant public safety concern across the region.
