Steven Fernandez Obituary New Jersey: Ridgefield Park Police Officer Steven Fernandez Killed In Tragic Snowmobile Accident
The Ridgefield Park community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Officer Steven Fernandez, who tragically passed away over the weekend in a snowmobile accident in Vermont. His sudden death has left his family, friends, and colleagues devastated as they remember a man who dedicated his life to serving others. A lifelong resident of Ridgefield Park, Fernandez was deeply admired for his kindness, unwavering support, and dedication to public service.
Fernandez fulfilled his dream of becoming a police officer when he joined the Ridgefield Park Police Department in 2015. However, his commitment to helping others began long before his law enforcement career. He had previously volunteered with the ambulance corps and the village fire department, always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Before joining the police force, Fernandez also worked as a registered nurse at Hackensack Meridian University Medical Center, where he continued to make a positive impact on many lives.
In 2023, he took on an important role within the department when he was named the RPPD’s LGBTQ+ liaison. As the department’s first openly gay male officer, Fernandez saw this position as an opportunity to build stronger connections between law enforcement and the LGBTQ+ community. He was passionate about fostering inclusivity and mutual understanding.
“I’m fortunate to work for a department where my fellow officers and administration have been nothing but supportive,” Fernandez said in 2023. “I look forward to working with the community and my fellow officers to continue to bridge the gap.” His efforts helped strengthen trust and communication, leaving a lasting impression on both the police force and the residents he served.
The Ridgefield Park Police Benevolent Association (PBA) paid tribute to him, describing him as “a beacon of kindness, laughter, and unwavering support.” His uplifting presence and ability to bring positivity to those around him made him an irreplaceable part of the department. His absence will be deeply felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
