The Ottawa community is mourning the loss of a beloved cultural icon and passionate advocate for Irish dance. Sue Fay Healy — founder of SFH Irish Dance, proud Irish Canadian, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother — passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8th at the age of 67, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Sue made Canada her home more than three decades ago and left an indelible mark on the city she came to love. Known for her infectious energy, fearless honesty, and dedication to her family and students, she built a vibrant life rooted in heritage, passion, and deep community ties.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Fran Healy, their children Andrew, Francis, and Jennifer, and her cherished grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Fran, her lifelong partner and steadfast caregiver, remained by her side throughout her courageous battle with illness — a testament to a love story that began decades ago and never wavered.
Tributes have poured in across social media and the local community, remembering Sue as a trailblazer in Irish dance and a cornerstone of Ottawa’s Irish cultural scene. The Crown & Rose Feis, a prominent local dance organization, expressed their grief online:
“Our hearts are filled with great sadness as we hear of the passing of a true Irish Canadian dance legend. She will be deeply missed. May she rest in peace.”
The Ottawa Gaels GAA club also honored her life and legacy, writing:
“Sue was a champion in the Ottawa Irish community… We are heartbroken that she’s gone. We send our love to Fran, her children, grandchildren, colleagues, students, friends, and all who knew and loved her.”
As founder and director of SFH Irish Dance Studio, Sue dedicated herself to preserving and sharing the art of Irish dance with generations of young dancers. Her studio was not just a place to learn steps and technique — it was a second home for many, a place filled with music, laughter, and discipline infused with warmth.
Her family described her as “fierce, loving, honest, and endlessly supportive.” In a heartfelt tribute, they wrote:
