MONTGOMERY, AL — Two brothers from Montgomery have been arrested and charged in connection to the shooting death of a 17-year-old teen, Zaveon Simpkins, on Madolyn Lane Friday evening. The Montgomery Police Department reported that officers responded to a shooting at approximately 7:00 p.m. in the 3600 block of Madolyn Lane, where they found Simpkins suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to provide aid, Simpkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities quickly launched an investigation and identified Christopher Kelly, 19, and Christian Kelly, 18, as the primary suspects. On Tuesday, police arrested both brothers and charged them with capital murder and first-degree robbery. They are currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
According to court documents, the Kelly brothers are accused of fatally shooting Simpkins during an attempted robbery. The two suspects reportedly targeted Simpkins and another teenage victim, stealing $500 in cash and an Apple iPhone 12, valued at around $1,000, from the other teen. Investigators believe the shooting was related to the robbery.
The community remains shaken by the tragedy, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities gather further details. The family of Simpkins is left to mourn the loss of their young loved one, while police work to bring justice in this heartbreaking case.
