GALVESTON, Texas — A heartbreaking family tragedy unfolded Thursday night, leaving the Galveston community shaken. Police were dispatched to the 5100 block of Avenue Q at 7:49 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Tiamoya Deshondra Moore suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Galveston EMS rushed her to the UTMB Emergency Room, where doctors worked to save her. Despite their efforts, Moore was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Investigators say witnesses identified Moore’s 16-year-old daughter, Niyah, as the suspected shooter. In a startling development, the teenager reportedly returned to the scene while police were still processing evidence. She was arrested on-site, and authorities recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
The juvenile is currently being held at the Jerry J. Esmond Juvenile Justice Center and faces a murder charge. Officials have not disclosed further details about what led up to the tragic event, citing the ongoing investigation.
Moore’s sudden death has left loved ones and neighbors devastated. Friends describe her as a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend whose warmth and light touched many lives.
A GoFundMe page created in her honor states: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved TiaMoya Moore. She was a cherished Daughter, Mother, Sister, Family & Friend who brought so much love and light into our lives. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.”
The Galveston Police Department has confirmed that the case remains active. As investigators continue to piece together the events that led to the shooting, the community is rallying around Moore’s family, offering support and prayers during this unimaginably difficult time.
Funeral and memorial details will be shared by the family in the coming days.
