RALEIGH, N.C. — A devastating crash in the early hours of Friday morning claimed the lives of two people at a busy Raleigh intersection, authorities confirmed.
The fatal collision occurred around 3:30 a.m. at Louisburg Road and I-540, a major corridor in the city. According to the Raleigh Police Department, the incident involved two vehicles: a 2017 Hyundai Tucson and a 2016 Acura TLX.
Investigators say 33-year-old Rashon Jamaal Comb, the driver of the Hyundai, was traveling northbound on Louisburg Road at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light at the intersection. At the same time, 22-year-old Trinidy Shehabb Amer was making a left turn from Midtown Market Avenue onto southbound Louisburg Road in the Acura.
The Hyundai struck the Acura on the driver’s side, resulting in fatal injuries to both drivers. Emergency responders pronounced both Comb and Amer dead at the scene.
The crash shut down Louisburg Road near I-540 for several hours as traffic investigators worked to determine the sequence of events. The road has since reopened in both directions.
Aerial footage captured by Chopper 11 later that morning showed both vehicles with extensive front-end and side damage, underscoring the violent impact of the crash.
Authorities have not indicated if alcohol or any other contributing factors were involved, but the investigation remains ongoing.
This latest tragedy has renewed calls for safer driving and increased awareness around high-speed intersections in the Triangle area. Friends and loved ones of the victims are now mourning the sudden loss, with tributes beginning to appear online.
