GREENVILLE, SC – The Hughes Academy of Science and Technology community is grieving the devastating loss of Will Hand, a bright and spirited 8th-grade student who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 8, 2025, following sudden medical complications.
Described by those who knew him as “smart, fun, and energetic,” Will brought a radiant joy to every room he entered. With his flowing hair, ever-present smile, and love for sports, Will was a vibrant presence at school and in his community. He was not only academically gifted but also had a natural charisma that made others feel welcome, heard, and happy.
According to his family, the tragic day began in the early morning hours when Will awoke feeling unwell. Within hours, his condition worsened dramatically. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away, leaving his family, friends, and school community in profound shock and sorrow.
“This is how I will always choose to remember Will,” his family shared. “Flowing hair, big smile, and in sports attire. I will see you again, son.”
Will’s sudden passing has left a deep void in the halls of Hughes Academy, where teachers and students are struggling to process the loss of a young man known for his kindness, wit, and boundless curiosity.
