LITHGOW, NSW – A woman in her 30s has tragically died following a collision between an electric scooter and a ute in Lithgow, approximately 140km west of Sydney.
The incident occurred at around 5:10 p.m. on Friday, near the intersection of Great Western Highway and Lee Street in Bowenfels, according to NSW Police.
Eyewitness Jessica Newsome was among the first on the scene and attempted to save the woman by performing CPR. Despite efforts by bystanders and NSW Ambulance paramedics, the woman could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, NSW Police confirmed that the crash involved a ute and an electric scooter.
“Officers attached to Chifley Police District were told that a ute and an electric scooter had collided,” a police spokesperson said.
“The rider—a woman believed to be in her 30s—was treated at the scene but tragically succumbed to her injuries.”
The driver of the ute, a 44-year-old man, was transported to Lithgow Hospital for mandatory testing, as per standard procedure.
Authorities have not yet formally identified the woman.
A crime scene was established at the site, and an investigation into the cause of the crash is now underway. Witnesses reported seeing the scooter lodged underneath the ute in the aftermath of the collision.
The Chifley Police District is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
